Exam Prep Seminars YVR Airport 2010

Our line of accelerated test prep seminars offer an excellent opportunity to prepare for Transport Canada written aviation exams on a fast track basis and to provide a comprehensive final review of mandatory subjects before writing the appropriate aviation examination. We are pleased to offer the following accelerated exam prep seminars from our training centre at YVR Vancouver International Airport to assist pilots/flight crew, flight dispatchers, AME's and PRM's towards achieving their goal of mastering their Transport Canada written examination.

General Information

SEMINAR LOCATION. Our seminars are conducted at our training centre conveniently located near the main terminal of YVR International Airport (across the street from the "Sea Island Centre" station on the Skytrain Canada Line) at Unit 130 - 5980 Miller Road, YVR International Airport. We do not currently offer our seminars at other locations in Canada.

REGISTRATION. Advance registration is required for all seminars: we do not accept registrations on the actual commencement date of a scheduled seminar. Seating is limited to 8 students (we keep our class size small to ensure optimal training - we recommend early registration to reserve a space and to allow time for your training manuals to reach you and for further time to advance study). If a seminar is full, we will not process your registration and we will contact you to confirm whether you wish to register for an alternate date.

BOOKS AND SUPPLIES. For each seminar, the required, mandatory texts are the applicable Culhane course manual and supplemental written test book, most current editions. These texts are extra and are not included in the basic seminar fee (discounted pricing for seminars is offered where Culhane texts are purchased with seminar registration). Supplies (e.g. flight computer, protractors etc.) are extra. Advanced reading of course texts is highly recommended. No other secondary books or references are necessary for the purposes of attending our seminars. Students should bring lined note paper, pens/pencils/highlighters etc. For all seminars other than AME, a flight computer is required (E6B, CR or electronic flight computer as per student preference).

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. PPL and CPL students will need a letter of recommendation from their primary flying instructor to sit Transport Canada PPL or CPL exam (no recommendations needed to sit the other exams).

SEMINAR PRE-REQUISITES. Other than for our Flight Dispatcher course (see below) we do not have any mandatory course pre-requisites other than holding the relevant next lower licence to the one sought (e.g. an applicant for the ATPL must hold a CPL etc.). We suggest at least 40 hours advance study in our Culhane training manuals for each seminar.

SEMINAR PRE-REQUISITES FOR FLIGHT DISPATCHER CANDIDATES. Those seeking to attend our Flight Dispatcher seminar that have no aviation background such as previous experience as a pilot, weather forecaster, navigator etc. will probably have difficulty keeping up with the pace of our seminar and so we recommend that such persons spend a minimum of 80 hours self study using our FD course texts in advance of seminar commencement.

STUDENT POSTPONEMENTS, CANCELLATIONS. Students having registered for an upcoming seminar are welcome to postpone their registration for any future alternate scheduled upcoming seminar date, space permitting, without penalty, provided that we are given at least 24 hours advance notice before the original seminar commences.

HOTELS AND ACCOMODATIONS. There are several YVR Airport area hotels and accomodations at budget, moderate and luxury price ranges that are all within 1 - 3 KM of our seminar facility and that all offer a free airport to hotel shuttle service. Many other accomodations can be located along the Canada Line including downtown Vancouver.

LUNCH BREAK - FREE SKY TRAIN TO MAIN TERMINAL. Since we are located just across from the Canada Line at the Sea Island Centre station, we suggest that students simply use the sky train to go to the YVR airport main terminal for a multitude of restaurants during the lunch break - the Canada Line is free between Sea Island Centre and the main terminal.

CUSTOMER PARKING. We provide free customer parking fronting our training centre.

TRANSPORT CANADA TESTING CENTRE - YVR AIRPORT. Students completing our training can write their TC writtens at the nearby Transport Canada Testing Centre (only a few blocks away from our training centre) at 400 - 3600 Lysander Lane (beside the Delta Inn, in the Harmony Air office building) telephone 604-666-8777. Note: The Transport Canada TCC requires that an advance appointment be made for a given TC written exam, and is open for testing during office hours M - F.

REVENUE CANADA TUITION FEE RECEIPTS, COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATES. The training services that we provide are strictly for written test prep only. Under Canadian tax law, fees spent for exam prep seminars are not eligible for tuition fee tax deductions and as such we cannot issue tuition fee tax receipts. As well, we are NOT a certified flying school, so attendance at our exam prep seminars will not count as "ground school" towards Transport Canada private or commercial pilot attendance requirements. Our exam prep seminars should be considered as exam prep tutoring services only. The only documentation we will issue is a sales invoice/receipt of payment: no tax slips, course certifications etc. will be issued.
