About Michael Culhane

Michael Culhane began flying at the age of 17 and completed his Private Pilot Licence and Commercial Pilot Licence part time while attending university. After obtaining his BSc the author completed his Seaplane Rating, Multi-Engine Rating, Flight Instructor Rating, Instrument Teaching Endorsement, Class 1 Instrument Rating, Senior Commercial Pilot Licence and Airline Transport Pilot Licence and established various customized flight and ground training programs in Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto. In his flying career, the author has piloted virtually all types of single and multi-engine training aircraft and has also flown several corporate aircraft. While flying professionally in the 1980's the author completed both a law degree (LLB, University of Calgary) and also completed a degree in English Literature (BA, UBC). In the late 1980's and 1990's, while continuing to fly part time professionally, Michael Culhane provided legal services as a practising lawyer in criminal law, construction law, labour law, aviation law and civil litigation. In this period he began to write training manuals for pilots. To date, in total the author has now written over 30 different aviation training texts that are used by pilots in over 40 different nations, with over 100,000 copies sold. Culhane aeronautical training texts and sample exam guides have now been widely adopted throughout all regions of Canada for flight and ground training programs at flying schools, flying clubs and aviation colleges for all Canadian fixed wing and rotary wing licences, ratings and permits. Currently, the author continues to write and update his training manuals, to provide aviation training services and to provide legal representation to Canadian pilots, aircraft owners and air operators.
